COURSE SEQUENCE GUIDELINES (All course descriptions can be found on either the MBA or MSIS main web pages)

Courses should be taken in the following order:

  1. Complete all foundation courses first, at the graduate level if possible. Core courses may be taken before completing foundations only when foundation courses are unavailable. Program advisor approval required. BUS 700 is a prerequisite for BUS 730.

  2. MBA: BUS 794, Strategic Management (3 cr.) can only be taken after all Management and Functional Core Courses are completed. Recommended to take earlier in program: BUS 788, 731, 752 and 771.

    MSIS: BUS 717, The Chief Information Officer (3 cr.) can only be taken in your last 9 degree credits after the completion of either BUS 754 or BUS 716.

  3. MBA and MSIS: The remainder of your courses can then be taken in any order. Please check prerequisites on the course description page to be sure those requirements have been completed for the course(s) you want to take.

 


GRADUATING THIS SEMESTER?


BETA GAMMA SIGMA, GRADUATE HONORS, AND OUTSTANDING GRADUATES

Beta Gamma Sigma is the national honor society for AACSB-accredited Schools/Colleges of Business. Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest scholastic honor a graduate student in business can earn. Graduate students in the top twenty percent of their graduating class (Summer, Fall, and Spring) are eligible for membership. We will notify you in February if you are eligible for May induction.

Graduate Honors is an award given by UW Oshkosh to graduate students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement (generally a graduate GPA of 3.9 or higher. Graduate students in the top twenty percent of the graduating class (Summer, Fall, and Spring) are eligible for membership. We will notify you in February if you are eligible for April induction.

Each year, up to 3 graduates are selected for the Outstanding MBA or MSIS Graduate Award. This competitive award is based on (1) leadership and service to the community, (2) contributions to your profession outside the classroom, and (3) short and long-term career goals. Nominations are open, however, most nominations come from current students and faculty. The MBA Alumni Advisory Board selects the recipients of this award.

ADMISSION TO CANDIDACY

The Graduate School Bulletin states that graduate students are required to be admitted to candidacy by the appropriate department after earning nine credits (not including Foundation courses) and before completing twenty-one-credits. Admission to candidacy requires the student to be in full standing and have completed all foundation courses or equivalents and have met departmental requirements. The candidacy paperwork is automatically prepared by the MBA/MSIS Office as soon as the student is eligible, and a copy is forwarded to the student from the Office of Graduate Studies. Check with the MBA/MSIS Office if you have questions.


GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS

Graduate assistantships are available for full-time Oshkosh area students. For information and an application form please visit the Office of Graduate Studies web site and select the Assistantship Application and/or Assistantship Information links.


THESIS OPTION

Student may elect to undertake a research project and write a six credit thesis as part of their degree program. Contact the MBA/MSIS Programs Office for details.
